Thanks to ‘QEST’…
I’m proud to announce that the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) is helping me develop my side saddle specialism. The Trust, which awards scholarships to exceptional British craftspeople, is supporting me to attend courses taught by side saddle expert Richard Godden.
I’m honing my side saddle refurbishment, restoration and repair skills, as well as learning to make new saddles to help ensure the future of this traditional sport.
Side Saddle Education Day 21st March 2012
The Society of Master Saddlers held a Side Saddle Education Day on 21st March at West Wilts Equestrian Centre. It was a very interesting, informative day, and I have learnt a great deal. The morning began with a demonstration of side saddle riding, I hope I have picked up a few tips to help me at the Area 8 Spring Show next month! This was followed by talks with the tree manufacturers and suppliers, and discussions with experienced saddlers about repairs, refurbishments and fitting. It was good to be around so many enthusiasts, to see so many different saddles and to benefit from the wealth of experience and knowledge generously shared with us. I came away keen to continue in my pursuit of learning about side saddles, and itching to get on with the refurbishments to the two side saddles I’m currently renovating!
